Our Story

At Modica and Son Handymen, we have a rich history of craftsmanship that dates back to 1912 when Ippolito Modica, a mason from Pozzallo, Sicily, began his career as an apprentice. Ippolito passed on his skills and values to his sons, including Virgilio Modica Sr., who, along with his brothers Mike and Rosario, immigrated to the United States and started a construction business called Modica Bros. Inc. in Clifton, NJ. When Mike and Rosario returned to Italy, Virgilio Sr. renamed the business Modica and Son, Inc. and included his son, Virgilio Jr., in the company name.

Virgilio Jr. learned every aspect of masonry construction, as well as framing, decks, plumbing, and remodeling, from his father and gained valuable experience working for the company during his summers as a teenager. Once he finished school, he was employed full time with his father and continued to hone his skills in the trade. In 2005, Virgilio Sr. retired and returned to Sicily, and in 2006, Virgilio Jr. started his own business in Woodstock, GA. He named it Modica and Son Handymen to reflect his ability to offer a wide range of services beyond just masonry work.

With two generations of craftsmanship behind him, Virgilio has learned the value of high-quality work and combines modern technology and materials with traditional techniques to provide exceptional service to his customers. He knows that there is a difference in the quality of work learned from his father compared to others in the industry and takes pride in upholding the legacy of Italian craftsmanship at Modica and Son Handymen.
